Below is an article written by David Norris, January DTS School Leader, about God’s provision. Thanks David!
I heard this statement yesterday. “God will provide if it is his will” This is true but I think it is most commonly used in the wrong way and can lead to us not actually moving with God. I say this because this was my attitude. You know where it got me? Into financial debt and into unbelief that led to fear. Fear of not being able to do what God called me to do.
Isa 41:13 “For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
I have had to be very deliberate to transform my thinking and my mindset by seeking out the truth in the Bible and actually believing that it is true! Romans 12:2 says to do this and then we will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will! Let me say something very clearly. God’s will IS to provide for his children. The whole Bible is a representation of God’s love for us and how he provides for his people.
Think about a loving father. Think of how he would want to provide and bless his children Matthew 7:11. But God is also very wise, he knows what to give us, when to give it, and we need to be faithful with what he gives us. I find it interesting that the previous verses Matt 7:7-8 that the actions to the father providing for his children is this. Ask, seek, knock. God does provide when we ask, seek and knock.
ACTIONS requiring movement!
But what do we do when nothing happens?
We seek and we knock. These things are ACTIONS. We have to move. Don’t be static, God isn’t. He is dynamic and moving and wanting us to move with him. Don’t wait around, ask for help! James 4:6 says, “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” If you don’t know what to do, ask for help from God and those around you. God will provide and guide you in the path to get there.
The Bible says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and light for my path.” Ps 119:105
Think of a lamp, like in the Bible, oil powered. It would light just enough of your path for you to walk a small distance. You wouldn’t be able to see way down the path but as you continue to walk it will light your path. Sometimes God will not highlight a huge part of our path but as we walk in faith he WILL light the way.
Your word is a lamp unto my feet. We don’t always see all the steps but as we walk in faith (an action) we will be shown where to go, given what we need and shown how to get there. So stop worrying about if he will provide, because he will, what and how is up to him but remember he is good, and focus on seeking him and his kingdom and his righteousness (Matt 6:25-34) He will give us what we need.
