Dabbling with different artistic mediums didn’t, in my opinion, make me an artist but I definitely had fun doing it. There was always something about creating that drew me in. In my creative process, however, I often found myself comparing myself to others; I was not confident in what I could do and always stressed over whether my art was ever good enough.
The concept of creating art alongside God was foreign to me until I was a student on YWAM Art Evangelists School.
I learnt that this was actually possible and it was both mysterious and exciting!
He was the one who taught me that together, we would always make something more beautiful than anything I could do on my own. Rather than paint my own ideas; my feelings and opinions, I learnt to ask God what His were and in turn grew closer to Him.
He showed me that He could change another person’s life through the art that we created. How wonderful; that I could actually use my art to reflect His truth and use this to bless those around me! On outreach, I saw what a difference it could make when I chose to be generous with my creativity; saw how people were curious and had a hunger to really know more about the hope and kindness of God.
God’s heart for all peoples and all nations is much larger than we can imagine.
The love He has is often described as being so vast that His thoughts towards us far outnumber all the grains of sand on the seashores.¹ Deeper than the depths of any ocean and extending further than the skies above us.²·³ As poetic as these descriptions are, His love is not so easily something we can sum up in words. His desire is for everyone to know who He is and I believe that our art has a big part to play in His plan for every tribe and tongue to experience His beauty and love for us.
I realised how much of a privilege it was to create. It no longer mattered if I was a good artist or if my work ever made a good impression because, unless it was aligned with God’s standard, good would always be a relative term. My identity as an artist was no longer defined by what I could make or in the opinions of others but simply in who I was, and am, as a cherished child of God.
This is the truth.
We will be pioneering the Art Evangelists School (AES) this upcoming July and we want to extend an invitation to you!
My desire through this school is that you would experience God’s excitement when we engage with Him, and use our gifts to reach the lost. Develop your creative skills to effectively share and communicate the truth about who He is. My hope is that as you grow deeper in intimacy with Him, you would also understand that you are not defined by what you create but that you would experience the joy in co-creating alongside our Creator!
So, what are you waiting for?
