Fresh Air

Reaching out to the sex workers of Newcastle offering support, encouragement, prayers and an opportunity to meet Jesus.

Throughout the Gospels we often find Jesus sitting and dining with the prostitutes and sex workers of the day. He offered them friendship and hope, devoid of any condemnation, allowing them to experience freedom from shame. In the same way, we want to show this authentic love to the women of our city.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

  • Our Work

  • Prostitution is legalised in New South Wales and, as the second largest city in the state, quite a number of gentlemen’s clubs, massage parlours and escort agencies are located in Newcastle.

    Each month our team of volunteers from both YWAM and local churches take gifts to the women, regularly visiting 10 businesses and connecting with up to 50 women. It’s a privilege to meet these women and befriend them; our team is blessed through these friendships as well.

    Our goal through these conversations is to be a breath of fresh air, bringing encouragement, prayer, hope and laughter to their day. We love to bless them with our gifts, offer a listening ear and an opportunity to meet Jesus.

    Over the years we’ve seen God move in the lives of many of the women we meet, as well as a number of the owners and managers of the businesses we visit. Through valuing the women and showing that they are worthy of our time, friendship and gifts, we aim to continue showing genuine love as Jesus did.

  • Our History

  • Rahab Ministries was established in Adelaide in 2003 in response to a strong call to reach out to the women working in Adelaide’s sex industry.

    Outreaches began with a small team reaching out to the women working on the street, before going on to visit local brothels and massage parlours. Since this time Rahab Ministries has expanded rapidly and now visits over 100 businesses in Adelaide alone, as well as having other teams operating in more than 10 cities across Australia.

    YWAM Newcastle launched Rahab in February 2012 and since then have made many connections with women working in brothels and massage parlours across our city. Over the years we have provided the women with easy access to health care professionals, counsellors and lawyers but have found the thing they value most is when we sit and spend intentional time with them.

    We currently visit 10 businesses across the city, connecting with up to 50 women a month.

  • Get Involved

  • Members of our community are invited to get involved. There are three ways to do this:

    Outreaches — Join us as we deliver gifts and visit the women. Please contact us if you’re interested in being part of our monthly outreaches.

    Donate — We gladly welcome financial donations and gifts for the women each month. This could look like baked goods, makeup, small artworks, jewellery, beauty products etc.

    Prayer — Please partner with us in prayer as we go out each month.
